SpicyChat AI Review

SpicyChat AI Review: Quick Verdict
Recommended if you want to try AI roleplay for free. SpicyChat is the most generous free option in this category. Sign in and you can chat with more than a million user-made characters, with a daily cap of 2,000 replies that few people will ever hit. You’ll put up with ads, short memory and the odd queue at busy times. Paid tiers start at $5.95 a month to remove the ads and queues, but the upgrades that change the experience (longer memory, Semantic Memory and in-chat images) start at $19.95 a month after a September 2026 price rise. Go in knowing that bot quality varies wildly, refunds are close to non-existent, and many regions now need a face or ID check for adult chats.
- Best for: adults who want free, varied character roleplay and don’t mind ads
- Skip it if: you want one polished companion, plenty of images or strong privacy commitments
- Starting price: free; paid plans from $5.95 a month
Affiliate disclosure: We may earn a commission if you subscribe through links on this page, at no additional cost to you. For adults 18+.

I’ll be honest. I expected “free” to mean a ten-minute demo and a paywall.
SpicyChat isn’t that. It’s a huge, messy library of characters written by other users, and you can spend hours in it without paying a cent. The trade-offs show up in memory, polish and privacy rather than in a message counter.
This review combines published product information with independent reviews and user reports. We checked the public website and pricing details on October 27, 2026; hands-on chat, memory and paid-feature testing has not been completed.

What Is SpicyChat AI, Exactly?
SpicyChat is a character chat platform for adults. Instead of one polished companion, you get a vast library of characters written by other users, from slow-burn romance to fantasy adventures, and you can write your own. Adult roleplay is allowed, which is the main reason people choose it over mainstream chatbots.
It’s run by NextDay AI, which operates through NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, NextDay AI USA Inc in Delaware and NextDay AI EU Ltd in Cyprus, according to SpicyChat’s own documents as summarized by Bonza. It also publishes an 18 U.S.C. 2257 compliance statement, the record-keeping notice adult sites post in the US.
The rules on paper are clear. SpicyChat is for adults 18 and over, and bots that depict underage characters are banned and deleted.
There’s no app-store download. SpicyChat’s earlier iPhone app was removed, and there’s no official Google Play app either. You use it in a browser (add it to your home screen from Safari on iPhone), or install the Android app straight from spicychat.ai/download. Store listings called things like “Spicy Chat AI” aren’t made by NextDay AI and can’t see your subscription.
Signing in is passwordless. You enter your email and type in a one-time code, or use Google, Apple, X or Discord. Stick to one method, because mixing them can create separate accounts.
If you’re curious but nervous, you’re not alone. A July 2026 Talker Research survey of 2,000 US adults found that 11% had had a flirty or romantic conversation with an AI chatbot.
Finding Characters Worth Your Time
SpicyChat says its community has made more than a million characters. That’s the draw, and the problem.
You land on a grid of popular picks, then narrow things down with search, tags (fantasy, romance and sci-fi are among the big ones) and a filter bar across the top. You can also clone a community character and edit its description, which is a handy shortcut if a bot is nearly right.
Quality is all over the place, because anyone can publish. AI Companion Guides reckons the top 5 to 10% are genuinely well written and the rest are a mixed bag. A few habits help you skip the duds:
- Start with popular characters that have plenty of chats behind them
- Read the description and greeting before you open a chat. Lazy writing there usually means lazy replies
- Clone a decent bot and fix what bugs you, rather than starting from scratch
Writing your own character is simple. You fill in a name, a short title, a greeting and a personality description, with extra fields for example dialogue if you want more control. There are no appearance sliders. SpicyChat is about words, not looks.
You can also set up personas, which describe who you are in a roleplay. Free accounts get three, and paid tiers raise that to 10, 50 or 100.
Free Access: What You Get Without Paying
This is where SpicyChat beats almost everyone. Here’s what a free account gets, per SpicyChat’s plan table and support staff as reported by RoboRhythms on October 1, 2026:
- Messages: if you don’t sign in, you get roughly 80 to 100 messages before a sign-in prompt. Signed-in accounts are capped at 2,000 replies a day, resetting at midnight
- Ads: yes, on every free account
- Queues: sometimes, when traffic spikes
- Memory: 4,096 tokens of context, which SpicyChat’s own example puts at about 20 recent messages
- Reply length: up to 180 tokens, or about 700 characters
- Models: six, led by a 26-billion-parameter default model
- Personas: three
That 2,000 cap counts the AI’s replies, including regenerations, but not your messages. It’s been in place since June 2024 and applies to paid members too. Earlier this year SpicyChat briefly limited free accounts to 100 messages a day, but that cap was gone by October.
Here’s the thing, though. Free chat is generous, but the memory is short. Twenty-odd messages of context means a character can lose the thread of a long scene, and that’s the real reason people upgrade.
My tip: sign in straight away, so you don’t burn your guest messages, and do your longer sessions outside peak evening hours.
Queues, Limits and Slowdowns
SpicyChat’s help center says queues only apply to free accounts during heavy traffic, and that most of the time there isn’t one. Any paid plan removes the queue, and the top tier adds priority generation on top.
Speed has improved, too. AI Companion Guides timed replies at 4 to 15 seconds in October 2025, and 3 to 8 seconds on a paid plan by March 2026.
Two other limits catch people out:
- The 2,000-reply notice can show up early. Some users report seeing the daily limit warning long before they could have sent that many messages. It reads like a glitch, and support is the place to take it
- Age checks can lock adult chats. In the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, adult content needs age verification. Skip it and you keep safe-for-work chats and basic features, but unrestricted characters stay locked (more on how verification works below)
Paid Tiers: What Each Plan Adds

SpicyChat’s official pricing update confirms these rates took effect on September 8, 2026. Prices below are in US dollars.
| Tier | Monthly | Yearly | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get A Taste | $5.95 (was $5) | $60 | No ads or queues, Memory Manager, 10 personas, 8 models |
| True Supporter | $19.95 (was $14.95) | $199.95 | 8K memory, Semantic Memory 2.0, longer replies, in-chat images, 50 personas, 13 models |
| I’m All In | $29.95 (was $24.95) | $299.95 | 16K to 32K memory, text-to-speech, images with any character, priority generation, 100 personas, all 24 models |
UK monthly prices are £4.95, £16.95 and £25.95. Yearly billing saves about 16% on every tier.
The True Supporter jump is the big one. It’s a third more than it was, and it’s the tier where SpicyChat actually starts to remember things.
Already subscribed? If you had an active recurring plan before September 8, you keep your old price for as long as it stays active and unchanged. Switch tiers, switch between monthly and yearly billing, or let it lapse, and you move to current pricing for good. If you’ve cancelled but your paid period hasn’t ended, reactivating keeps the old rate.
The fine print, from SpicyChat’s refund policy (dated July 31, 2024) and support pages, as reported by AiFreands and Bonza:
- Fees are non-refundable once you’ve used your login details, so in practice, once you’ve logged in
- There are no partial-month refunds or credits. Approved refunds are issued within 10 days
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel, and failed payments are retried
- Tax is added at checkout, so the charge will be a little higher than the sticker price
- Charges show on your statement as “NDAI.CC”
How to cancel: go to Profile Settings, then Manage, then Cancel membership, or use spicychat.ai/portal. You keep your benefits until the end of the period you’ve paid for. A subscription bought through a lookalike app isn’t SpicyChat’s, so cancel that one in your app store.
My advice? Get A Taste is worth it only if ads and queues drive you up the wall. If memory is your complaint, skip straight to True Supporter, and try a single month before you commit to a year.

Memory and Chat Quality
Memory is the line that separates SpicyChat’s tiers, so it’s worth understanding.
- Context window: 4,096 tokens on free and Get A Taste (about 20 recent messages), 8,192 on True Supporter, and up to 32,768 on I’m All In, though most of that tier’s models stop at 16K. SpicyChat’s own estimate is that 32K keeps roughly 200 earlier messages in view
- Memory Manager: from Get A Taste up, you can pin facts by hand so a character keeps them
- Semantic Memory 2.0: from True Supporter up, SpicyChat saves key facts automatically, so a character can recall them after they scroll out of view
- Between chats: no tier carries memory from one chat to a separate one. Keep a story in a single thread
In AI Companion Guides’ testing, recall worked about 60 to 70% of the time, and threads past 200 messages still degraded. That matches the most common complaint on SpicyChat’s Trustpilot page: bots forgetting what happened.
You also get more models as you pay more: six on free, eight on Get A Taste, 13 on True Supporter and 24 on I’m All In, including SpicyChat’s own SpicyXL models and big open-weight models such as DeepSeek V3. The top tier also unlocks advanced generation settings. Subscribers argue endlessly on Reddit about which model is best, and the newest ones get mixed reviews, with some users complaining that characters drift.
Images and Voice
SpicyChat is a text-first platform, and its visual extras show it.
- Avatars: free accounts can use the avatar generator for character portraits
- In-chat images: True Supporter adds Conversation Images on supported characters, and I’m All In extends them to any character. RoboRhythms describes them as low-resolution
- Voice: text-to-speech reads replies aloud, but only on I’m All In. There are no voice calls
- Video: none. SpicyChat’s help center confirms it doesn’t generate video
That’s fine if you’re here for the writing. If you want a companion you can see, a visual-first app such as OurDream AI or Candy AI will serve you far better.
The usual rules apply. Never upload or describe a real person, and keep every character and scenario 18+.
Privacy, Safety and Deleting Your Account
This is SpicyChat’s weakest area, and it’s mostly about paperwork that hasn’t kept up.
VerifyWise, which grades how clearly AI apps explain their data practices, gave SpicyChat an F (32 out of 100) in October 2026. Its main findings:
- The privacy policy is old. It was last updated on May 4, 2023, long before memory features, images and age checks arrived
- AI training isn’t addressed. Neither the policy nor the terms say whether your chats train SpicyChat’s models, and there’s no opt-out
- The content license is broad. The terms grant SpicyChat a “perpetual, and irrevocable” license to what you submit, which it can pass to partners it has contracts with
- Retention is open-ended. Data is kept “for as long as necessary,” with no set period for chat logs
That grade measures how transparent the documents are, not what SpicyChat actually does with your data. Still, it’s not reassuring for a service built on intimate conversations.
There is some good news. SpicyChat’s guide says character creators can’t see the messages you send or receive with their bots. Two-factor authentication is available too, and worth switching on.
Deleting your account. You can delete your data from your account settings or by emailing support. Deleted accounts can’t be recovered, and nothing carries over if you sign up again with the same email. One reviewer’s deletion request took 11 days to complete.
Age verification. In the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, adult chats require an age check through a third-party partner. It’s usually a video selfie that estimates your age, with an ID check and face match as the fallback. SpicyChat says it never sees or stores the images or documents, and the partner only sends back a yes or no. Since July 25, 2025, Ofcom’s rules have required strong age checks on UK services that show porn, so UK readers should expect this.
Discretion. Charges appear as “NDAI.CC,” which doesn’t mention SpicyChat. There’s no app-store purchase to show up on your phone, either. If you install the Android app, download it only from spicychat.ai/download, since Android will warn you about apps from outside the Play Store.
A few habits help:
- Sign up with an email address that doesn’t include your name
- Keep real names, addresses and workplaces out of your chats and personas
- Turn on two-factor authentication
For context, SpicyChat isn’t alone. When Mozilla reviewed 11 romantic AI chatbots in 2024, every one failed its privacy review.
What Reddit, Forums and Review Sites Say
SpicyChat has a busy subreddit, r/SpicyChatAI, plus a Discord server. These are the recurring themes in the user reports gathered for this review.
Limits cause the most confusion. Rumors about new message caps pop up regularly, and SpicyChat’s support account has had to clarify more than once. In September, it explained that the roughly 80 to 100 message limit only applies to people who haven’t signed in. Users also report the 2,000-reply warning appearing far too early.
Model debates never stop. Subscribers rank the models constantly, and the newer ones divide opinion. A common complaint is characters drifting away from their personality on some models.
Memory is the sore spot. On SpicyChat’s Trustpilot page, the most repeated complaint is bots forgetting earlier parts of the conversation. Others mention chat errors, support requests that went nowhere and pricing changes.
Moderation misfires. One Trustpilot reviewer said a harmless character description was wrongly flagged as underage. Strict rules are the right call here, but the filters aren’t perfect.
Age checks arrived without warning. When West Virginia joined the list of verification states in June 2026, users there reported being asked for a video selfie with no email or notice beforehand.
Trustpilot is rough, but thin. SpicyChat’s profile scores 2.1 out of 5 from 61 reviews, with 52% at one star. SpicyChat hasn’t claimed the page, and 35 of those reviews came in the past year. The praise, where it appears, is for free and unfiltered chat.
The overall picture? Across these reports, people who treat SpicyChat as a free, endless library of stories tend to love it. People who want one companion who remembers everything tend to leave frustrated.
The Good, the Meh and the Dealbreakers
The good
- A genuinely usable free tier, capped at a generous 2,000 replies a day
- More than a million user-made characters, plus easy cloning and editing
- Clear, published differences between the paid tiers
- A price lock for subscribers who joined before September 8, 2026
- Character creators can’t read your chats, and billing shows as “NDAI.CC”
The meh
- Ads and occasional queues on the free tier
- Short memory on free and Get A Taste, at about 20 recent messages
- Wildly uneven character quality
- The memory upgrade starts at $19.95 a month, after a one-third price rise
- No official App Store or Google Play app
- Images are low-resolution and limited to the two top tiers
The dealbreakers (for some)
- A privacy policy last updated in 2023, with no word on AI training
- Fees are non-refundable once you’ve logged in
- A face or ID check for adult chats in the UK, Australia, parts of Europe and 26 US states
Who It’s For (and Who Should Skip It)
SpicyChat is a good fit if you:
- Want to try AI roleplay without paying anything
- Love variety and enjoy hunting through user-made characters
- Like writing your own characters and scenarios
- Care more about the story than about pictures
Skip it if you:
- Want one consistent companion who knows you deeply. Nomi or Kindroid will suit you better
- Mainly want images, video or voice calls
- Want clear, current commitments on how your chats are used
- Won’t verify your age with a selfie or ID, and live somewhere that requires it
SpicyChat Alternatives Worth a Look
If SpicyChat’s mix of free variety and short memory doesn’t suit you, these are the obvious next stops. Prices move often, so treat these as starting points.
- Candy AI. One polished companion instead of a library, with unlimited chat and images from $3.99 a month on the annual plan. Its free tier is only five messages, though.
- OurDream AI. The pick for images and video, with published coin prices and 1,000 coins a month from $9.99 a month on the annual plan.
- Nomi. Built around long-term memory and conversation, at $99.99 a year on iOS. It’s the better bet if you want a character who remembers you.
- Kindroid. Deep control over personality, backstory and memories, plus real-time voice calls, though its annual plan costs far more.
SpicyChat AI FAQs
Is SpicyChat free?
Yes. A signed-in free account can chat with any public character, up to 2,000 replies a day, with ads and occasional queues. Paid plans remove the ads and add memory, models and images.
How much is SpicyChat?
Get A Taste costs $5.95 a month, True Supporter $19.95 and I’m All In $29.95, after a September 2026 price rise. Yearly plans cost $60, $199.95 and $299.95.
Does SpicyChat have a message limit?
Signed-in accounts are capped at 2,000 AI replies a day, regenerations included. If you don’t sign in, you’ll get about 80 to 100 messages before you’re asked to.
Why is there a queue on SpicyChat?
Free accounts can be queued when traffic spikes. Any paid plan skips the queue, and I’m All In adds priority generation.
Is SpicyChat safe?
It’s run by a registered company, NextDay AI, and character creators can’t see your chats. But its privacy policy was last updated in 2023 and doesn’t say whether chats train its models. Use a separate email and keep personal details out of your chats.
What will show on my bank statement?
“NDAI.CC,” with no mention of SpicyChat.
Can I get a refund?
Rarely. SpicyChat’s refund policy says fees are non-refundable once your login details have been used, and there are no partial-month refunds.
Is there a SpicyChat app?
Not on the App Store or Google Play. Use it in your browser, or install the Android app from spicychat.ai/download. Store listings using the SpicyChat name aren’t made by NextDay AI.
Do I need to verify my age?
In the UK, France, Italy, Australia and 26 US states, yes, for adult chats. It’s usually a video selfie, with an ID check as a fallback.
So, Is SpicyChat AI Worth It?
As a free service, absolutely. No rival comes close to SpicyChat’s mix of a usable free tier and a vast library of characters, and you can find out whether AI roleplay is for you without paying a cent.
Paying is a harder call. Get A Taste mainly buys you peace from ads and queues. The real upgrade, longer memory and Semantic Memory, now costs $19.95 a month. That’s fair if you live in long stories, but try a month first, because refunds are off the table once you log in.
Whichever way you go, keep personal details out of your chats, turn on two-factor authentication and expect an age check if you’re in the UK or one of the verification states.
