GirlfriendGPT Review

GirlfriendGPT Review: Quick Verdict
Recommended if great writing and a huge character library matter more to you than polish. GirlfriendGPT, at gptgirlfriend.online, is SpicyChat’s sister site, run by the same Montreal company. It offers more than 25,000 community-made characters, and reviewers and users keep singling out its roleplay writing as some of the best around. Premium costs $15 a month, or $144 a year (equivalent to $12 a month), and includes 5,000 messages and 400 coins for images and video each month. The catches: the free tier is only 10 to 20 messages, the interface feels dated, images drift, billing reports are confusing, and its privacy policy reportedly keeps data for up to six years after you close your account.
- Best for: adults who want sharp, character-driven roleplay and a vast choice of characters
- Skip it if: you want a polished app, strong images, a generous free tier or short data retention
- Starting price: free (10 to 20 messages); Premium from $12 a month, billed yearly

I’ll be honest. The name made me expect a thin ChatGPT wrapper.
It’s a real platform with an established company behind it, and the writing is the reason people stay. The rough edges are everywhere else.

What Is GirlfriendGPT, Exactly?
GirlfriendGPT is a character chat platform for adults. Like its sister site SpicyChat, it’s built around a big library of user-made characters, but it leans harder into companionship and adult roleplay, with images, voice and short videos on paid plans. It’s been around since 2023.
It’s run by NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, which also has companies in Delaware and Cyprus, according to its legal pages as summarized by CompanionWise and DatingScout. That’s the same company behind SpicyChat.
Make sure you’re on the real site. The official address is gptgirlfriend.online. The name is popular, and lookalikes are easy to land on:
- gptgirlfriend.org is “GPTGirlfriend,” a separately run product, according to NeuronFeed
- girlfriendgpt.ai is named as the official site by at least one review site. I couldn’t confirm who runs it
- GirlfriendGPT on GitHub is a 2023 open-source project by developer Enias Cailliau that let programmers build their own Telegram companion bot (Gigazine). That’s code you run yourself, not this service
You’ll also find “GirlfriendGPT reviews” turning up on unrelated university and government websites, a classic sign of spam. Skip them.
Check who made any app, too. GirlfriendGPT has no App Store or Google Play app. You use it in your browser and can add it to your home screen as a web app, and CompanionWise says there’s an Android download (APK) on the site as well. SteveJabba found a Google Play listing published by WhatsGoodApps LLC rather than NextDay AI, so treat store apps with the name as unofficial unless gptgirlfriend.online links to them.
Signing up takes a username and password, or a Google or Discord account, plus a verification email. You don’t need a phone number.
The Character Library (and Building Your Own)
GirlfriendGPT’s library holds more than 25,000 community-made characters across 100-plus tags, per CompanionWise, and you can filter by style, gender, type and what’s trending. The most popular characters rack up millions of chats.
Anyone can publish a character, and creators can earn a commission on the subscriptions their characters bring in. Public characters are moderated before they go live, which DatingScout says can slow publishing down.
Quality varies, as it does on any user-made library. A few habits help:
- Start with popular characters that have plenty of chats behind them
- Read a character’s description, greeting and reviews before you start
- Follow creators whose characters you like
Building your own is text-first. You write a personality of up to 2,500 characters (letters, that is) plus a backstory and appearance description, but there are no sliders for looks. Free accounts can make up to two custom characters, according to DatingScout, though AI Companion Guides found character creation locked on its free account.
Once you’re chatting, a settings panel lets you adjust reply length, level of detail and narrative point of view. A Suggested Reply helper offers you a line when you’re stuck, and you can regenerate or edit replies. FlashDevelop’s reviewer also found you can switch between safe-for-work and adult chat mid-conversation without resetting.
Free vs Paid: What You Get Without Paying
The free tier is small. Reviews this year put it at 10 to 20 messages, and AI Companion Guides found adult chat and images locked on its free account. DatingScout adds that free accounts get 30 coins for the image generator, and you can earn a few more by completing tasks.
That’s enough to sample the writing, and not much more. Paying unlocks:
- Adult chat: on every paid plan
- More messages: 5,000 a month on Premium, 20,000 on Deluxe and unlimited on Elite
- Monthly coins for images and video: 400, 1,200 or 2,000, depending on the plan
- Better models and more memory, with an 8K context window on Deluxe
- Voice: voice features from Deluxe, and voice calls on Elite
My tip: spend your free messages on one popular character. The writing is the main reason to pay, so judge that first.
What GirlfriendGPT Really Costs
GirlfriendGPT charges a subscription for messages, plus coins for images and video. Here are the plans, from DatingScout’s September 20, 2026 pricing table, with allowances from CompanionWise and AI Companion Guides:
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | Each month you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | $15 | $144 a year (equivalent to $12 a month) | 5,000 messages, 400 coins, adult chat, custom characters |
| Deluxe | $35 | $294 a year (equivalent to $24.50 a month) | 20,000 messages, 1,200 coins, voice features, 8K memory |
| Elite | $50 | $396 a year (equivalent to $33 a month) | Unlimited messages, 2,000 coins, the newest model, voice calls |
Earlier 2026 reviews quote lower prices, with Deluxe at $24.50 to $30 a month and Elite at $35 to $42. Some of those may be annual rates, so check the current price at checkout.
Coins pay for images and video. Members can top up with packs of 300 coins for $10, 840 for $25 or 2,000 for $50, which works out at about 3 cents a coin. FlashDevelop’s reviewer found an image from the Character Pro model costs 8 coins, so Premium’s 400 monthly coins cover roughly 50 images. Monthly allowances reset rather than rolling over.
The fine print, from CompanionWise, SteveJabba and AI Companion Guides:
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel
- Reviews disagree on how billing works. CompanionWise says payments run through Patreon and show as “Patreon membership,” while SteveJabba names the adult payment processors CCBill and TrustPay. Either way, the FAQ promises a discreet name on your statement rather than “GirlfriendGPT”
- Refunds are limited and not clearly spelled out in the terms. CompanionWise suggests contacting support first
- Some users report renewals that didn’t register and plans showing the wrong tier
How to cancel: DatingScout points to your profile settings. If your membership runs through Patreon, cancel it in Patreon as well, and screenshot the confirmation either way.
My advice? Start with a month of Premium, not a year. Deluxe is worth it only if you want voice or chat for hours every day, and Elite only if 20,000 messages a month genuinely isn’t enough.

Memory and Chat Quality
The writing is GirlfriendGPT’s calling card. AI Companion Guides spent two paid weeks with it from June 23, 2026, and praised its witty, consistent character voices and deep custom characters, scoring chat 4 out of 5. Users on Reddit say much the same, even when they’re grumbling about everything else.
Memory is more mixed:
- Context window: Deluxe gets 8K, according to GirlfriendGPT’s affiliate program page. The company doesn’t publish figures for other plans
- Pinned details: a June review describes a Memory Pinning feature for fixing key facts in a character’s memory, and puts active memory at about 30 messages
- Across sessions: AI Companion Guides saw callbacks to earlier sessions days later on higher tiers, but on the entry plan, longer chats lost context and contradicted earlier details
- Long roleplays: some long-term users say scenes start to repeat across sessions
Voice, Images and Video
Media is the weakest part of the package, and the part that costs extra.
- Images: the image tool has a prompt box and a negative-prompt field, with realistic and anime styles. Images use coins, at about 8 coins each on the Character Pro model
- Video: GirlfriendGPT’s official image-to-video announcement says the feature is available on Deluxe and Elite. It turns a generated image into a short clip; quality and coin costs have not been tested for this review.
- Voice: characters can have their own voices. Deluxe adds voice features, and FlashDevelop found voice calls need Elite
Quality reviews are lukewarm. AI Companion Guides saw faces drift between images, and CompanionWise rates image quality below Candy AI and DreamGF. It also calls the voice basic next to Replika or Nomi. A Trustpilot reviewer complained that images came out nearly identical whatever the prompt.
The usual rules apply. Never upload or describe a real person, and keep every character and scenario 18+.
Privacy, Data Controls and Deleting Your Account
This is GirlfriendGPT’s weakest area. Here’s what reviewers found in its privacy policy and terms:
- Long retention: data is kept “usually up to six years after account closure unless law requires otherwise,” per SteveJabba’s August read of the policy. CompanionWise reports the same six years
- Your chats count as personal data, used to run and improve the service
- Tracking: Google Analytics and advertising networks collect data, according to CompanionWise
- Sharing: data can go to service providers, professional advisers and, where required, legal authorities
- Security: described only as “appropriate security measures,” with no named standard
- Content license: the terms give the company a broad license over what you submit
Data controls. You can keep your characters and chats private. The policy mentions GDPR rights to deletion and data portability, but CompanionWise found no export tool. You can ask for your data to be erased, though the retention clause suggests some records outlast your account.
Age checks. GirlfriendGPT is for adults. Older independent reviews describe a self-declared age gate, but this review has not verified the current checks in every region. Do not assume that an older report describes today’s sign-up process.
Site reputation. Security scanners are split. Gridinsoft rates the domain as suspicious, and MalwareTips’ scanner flags it as risky, based on a single phishing flag from 1 of 92 engines. Have I Been Pwned lists no known breaches. I wouldn’t read much into one flag, but it’s another reason to keep your real details out.
A few habits help:
- Sign up with an email address that doesn’t include your name
- Keep real names, addresses and workplaces out of your chats and characters
- Check your statement after the first charge, so you know what to look for
What Reddit, Forums and Review Sites Say
These are recurring themes in the independent reviews and user reports gathered for this article. They describe other people’s experiences, rather than results from our own hands-on testing.
The writing still wins people over. In a December 2025 thread on r/AIAssisted, users rated the writing as still among the best around, even while calling the interface old and clunky (as quoted by CompanionWise).
Stability is a worry. One Reddit user said in March 2026 that the service had slowly gotten worse until neither the app nor the website would load. Others report renewals that didn’t register and plans showing the wrong tier.
People feel the paywalls. A common complaint is that too much sits behind paywalls and that it’s gotten more expensive, and September’s prices are higher than most earlier reviews quoted.
Images disappoint. A December 2025 Trustpilot reviewer said the image generator turned out near-identical pictures whatever the prompt, and that the site felt laggy. Reviewers who tested it saw faces drift between images.
Trustpilot is too thin to judge. GirlfriendGPT’s Trustpilot page scores 2.7 out of 5 from just four reviews, and the company hasn’t claimed it.
The overall picture? Across these reports, people who come for the stories tend to stick around. People who come for images or a slick app tend to leave.
The Good, the Meh and the Dealbreakers
The good
- Some of the best roleplay writing in the category, by most accounts
- More than 25,000 community characters, plus detailed text-based custom characters
- Fine control over reply length, detail and point of view
- Message-based plans that suit people who chat a lot
- An established operator, the company behind SpicyChat
The meh
- A free tier of 10 to 20 messages
- A dated interface, and reports of instability
- Images drift between pictures and trail specialist apps
- Coins on top of subscriptions, and users say prices have gone up
- No App Store or Google Play app
The dealbreakers (for some)
- Data reportedly kept for up to six years after you close your account
- Limited independent verification of age checks and safety resources
- Confusing billing and limited refunds
Who It’s For (and Who Should Skip It)
GirlfriendGPT is a good fit if you:
- Care most about writing quality and character voice
- Like browsing a big library of user-made characters
- Enjoy writing your own characters in detail
- Chat a lot and would rather have a message allowance than pay per reply
Skip it if you:
- Want a polished app with strong images. Candy AI or OurDream AI will suit you better
- Want free character chat. SpicyChat, from the same company, is far more generous
- Want short data retention and clear privacy commitments
- Want a companion who remembers you for weeks. Nomi is built for that
GirlfriendGPT Alternatives Worth a Look
If GirlfriendGPT isn’t quite right, these are the obvious next stops. Prices move often, so treat these as starting points.
- SpicyChat. The same company’s free-first sister site, with a 2,000-reply daily cap on free accounts and paid plans from $5.95 a month.
- Candy AI. One polished companion with much stronger images, from $3.99 a month on the annual plan. Its free tier is only five messages, though.
- OurDream AI. The pick for images and video, with 1,000 Dreamcoins a month from $9.99 a month billed yearly and a published coin price list.
- Nomi. Built around long-term memory and conversation, at $99.99 a year on iOS.
GirlfriendGPT FAQs
What is the official GirlfriendGPT website?
It’s gptgirlfriend.online. Sites such as gptgirlfriend.org are separate products, and store apps using the name aren’t official unless the site links to them.
Is GirlfriendGPT free?
Only to try. Free accounts get 10 to 20 messages and a few coins for images. Adult chat and higher message limits need a paid plan.
How much does GirlfriendGPT cost?
As of September 2026, Premium costs $15 a month or $144 a year, Deluxe $35 a month or $294 a year, and Elite $50 a month or $396 a year.
What are GirlfriendGPT coins?
Coins pay for images and video. Each plan includes some every month, and members can buy packs from 300 coins for $10.
Is GirlfriendGPT the same as SpicyChat?
They’re run by the same company, NextDay AI, but they’re separate services with their own plans and prices.
Is there a GirlfriendGPT app?
Not on the App Store or Google Play. You can add the website to your home screen as a web app, and there’s an Android download on the site.
Does GirlfriendGPT remember you?
Within limits. Higher plans get more memory, and you can pin key details, but reviewers found recall patchy on the entry plan.
Is GirlfriendGPT safe?
It’s run by an established company, but its privacy policy reportedly keeps data for up to six years after you close your account, and current regional age checks have not been independently tested here. Use a separate email and keep personal details out of your chats.
What will show on my bank statement?
Not the GirlfriendGPT name, according to its FAQ. Depending on how you pay, reviewers report “Patreon membership” or an adult billing processor.
So, Is GirlfriendGPT Worth It?
If the words matter most, it can be. Few platforms get this much praise for roleplay writing, and 25,000-plus characters means you’ll rarely run out of new ones to try.
Just know what you’re paying for. At $15 a month for Premium, and up to $50 for Elite, you’re buying writing rather than polish: the images are middling, the interface is dated and the billing has caused confusion. The six-year data retention is a real cost, too, for something this personal.
So try the free messages first, then a single month of Premium before any yearly plan. Keep personal details out of your chats, and make sure you’re on gptgirlfriend.online.
