Nectar AI Review

Nectar AI review — pricing, features and limitations

Nectar AI Review: Quick Verdict

Recommended if you want to design your own companion and get plenty of photos on a small budget. Nectar AI lets you build a companion down to body type, outfit and personality, then chat and swap photo messages within a clear monthly allowance. Premium costs $9.99 a month, or $59.99 a year (about $5 a month), and includes 6,000 messages, 600 photo messages and 50 voice messages a month. That makes it one of the cheaper ways into a visual companion. The catches: the free plan stops at 15 messages a day, Long Term Memory and video are locked to the $34.99-a-month Ultimate plan, a second currency (credits) pays for premium chat models, and the privacy policy doesn’t say how long chats are kept or whether they train its AI.

  • Best for: adults who want a custom-designed companion with lots of photos, without paying top-tier prices
  • Skip it if: you want a companion that remembers you for weeks, a phone app or clear answers on how your chats are used
  • Starting price: free (15 messages a day); Premium from about $5 a month, billed yearly

Nectar AI homepage navigation and browsing interface

I’ll admit I went in expecting another Candy AI clone.

On looks, it’s close. But Nectar publishes exact monthly allowances for messages, photos and voice messages, which many rivals don’t, and its Fantasies (ready-made scenarios with up to 10 characters) give it a personality of its own.

This review combines published product information with independent reviews and user reports. We checked the public website on October 28, 2026; hands-on chat, memory and paid-feature testing has not been completed.

What Is Nectar AI, Exactly?

Nectar AI is a companion app for adults built around two ideas: companions you design yourself, and Fantasies, ready-made roleplay scenarios you can drop into. Chat, photo messages, voice messages and, on the top plan, video all live in one web app.

It’s run by Nectar AI, LLC. In August 2024, Nectar announced a $3.9 million seed round co-led by crypto investors Mechanism Capital and Karatage, and said more than 500,000 people were using it.

Use the right address. Nectar lives at nectar.ai, which also answers at trynectar.ai. A separate site at trynectar.it.com uses the Trynectar name but says it’s unaffiliated, with a different operator and different policies. On the App Store, an app called “Nectar Companion AI” comes from a different developer, according to RoboRhythms. (And no, it has nothing to do with Nectar HR, the workplace recognition software.)

There’s no official phone app. RoboRhythms found no App Store listing from Nectar AI, LLC in October 2026, so you use Nectar in your browser, on any device.

Signing up is free, and nothing is charged until you choose a plan.

If you’re curious but a little sheepish about it, you’re in good company. A 2025 Wheatley Institute study of nearly 3,000 US adults found that 19% had chatted with an AI built to act as a romantic partner.

Creating a Companion and Chatting

Building a companion is Nectar’s strong suit. You choose appearance, body type, outfit and personality traits, then write a backstory and speaking style in your own words. Realistic and anime styles are both on offer.

How much control you get depends on your plan. Free accounts get 4 customization options, Premium adds 45-plus, Pro adds 95-plus and Ultimate unlocks more than 350 in total, per RoboRhythms’ October check. Free accounts also get one custom companion and one persona (a profile describing who you are in a roleplay).

Not in the mood to build? The Discover tab holds ready-made companions, sorted by tags such as girls, guys and anime, plus Fantasies. A Fantasy gives you a character, a setting and an opening situation, and some are group chats with several AI characters. Group Fantasies are free to start, but the full 10 characters per conversation are reserved for Ultimate. Premium lets you create unlimited Fantasies of your own, and ones using your private companions stay private.

Once you’re chatting, you can switch between eight chat models: Nectar’s Basic model, its flagship Orchid and Orchid Lite, Fuchsia, Primrose, Nevoria, and DeepSeek V4 Flash and V4 Pro. The premium models cost credits per message, and the app shows each model’s cost when you pick it. StartupHub.ai found the chat smooth and natural in short and medium sessions, with filters looser than mainstream character apps.

What You Get for Free

Nectar’s free plan is a quick look, not a long stay. Per RoboRhythms’ October 22 check of the plan page, it includes:

  • Messages: 15 a day
  • Memory: the last 15 messages
  • Photos: one photo message from your companion, plus 10 images a day from the image generator
  • Companions: one custom companion, with 4 customization options
  • Personas: one

That’s enough to see whether you like the chat style. It isn’t enough to judge a custom companion properly, and StartupHub.ai’s reviewer came to the same conclusion.

Memory of 15 messages is the real squeeze. A companion that forgets what you said a few minutes ago won’t show you what Nectar can do.

My tip: use the free plan to try a couple of Fantasies and chat models, then decide whether a single month of Premium is worth it.

What Nectar AI Really Costs

Nectar charges in two layers: a plan with monthly allowances, and credits for extras. Here are the plans, as RoboRhythms read them on October 22, 2026:

Plan Monthly Yearly What you get each month
Premium $9.99 (list price $19.99) $59.99 (about $5 a month) 6,000 messages, 8K memory, 600 photo messages, 50 voice messages, 100 image generations a day
Pro $19.99 $119.99 (about $10 a month) 9,000 messages, 16K memory, 900 photo messages, 50 voice messages, unlimited HD image generations
Ultimate $34.99 $179.99 (about $15 a month) Unlimited messages, 64K memory, Long Term Memory, 100 voice messages, video, unlimited HD image generations, 2,500 credits

Yearly billing roughly halves the cost on every plan.

Credits are the second currency. They pay for premium chat models, advanced roleplay and some image and video generation. Ultimate includes 2,500 a month, and you can top up with packs:

Credits Price
2,500 $4.99
5,600 $10.99
11,600 $21.99
20,000 $35.99
30,000 $49.99
65,000 $99.99
135,000 $199.99

That works out at about $2 per 1,000 credits on the smallest pack and $1.48 on the biggest. The catch: Nectar doesn’t publish a full list of what credits buy. The app shows each chat model’s cost when you select it, and it says one image costs as much as 10 basic messages. Budgeting for heavy use takes some trial and error.

The fine print, from RoboRhythms’ read of Nectar’s terms and FAQ:

  • Plans renew automatically until you cancel
  • There’s no refund for the period you’ve already paid for
  • Premium memory features stop when your subscription ends, and premium chat history may become inaccessible
  • Premium’s $9.99 is a discount from $19.99, so check the price you’ll renew at

How to cancel: turn off renewal in your profile settings, email support@nectar.ai or ask on Nectar’s Discord. Since there’s no refund for the current period, cancel a few days before your renewal date.

My advice? Start with a month of Premium. It’s the plan most people need, and the yearly price is tempting at $59.99, but only once you know the chat and photos work for you. Pro mainly buys HD images and more messages. Ultimate is the only plan with Long Term Memory and video, so pick it if you want a long relationship rather than short scenes.

Memory, Consistency and Chat Quality

Memory is where Nectar’s plans differ most, so it’s worth understanding before you pay.

  • Context window: the last 15 messages on free, 8K on Premium, 16K on Pro and 64K on Ultimate. The bigger the window, the more of the recent conversation your companion can see
  • Long Term Memory: Ultimate only. It’s meant to carry key details beyond the context window
  • Manual memories: you can save facts yourself, filed as Knowledge, Event, Milestone or Custom
  • When you stop paying: premium memory features switch off, and Nectar’s FAQ admits older exchanges may fade anyway

The independent testing is mixed. StartupHub.ai found long-arc memory the weak point, with drift and repetition in long chats, and earlier plot points forgotten after long threads or a few days away. It rated memory weak past about 100 meaningful turns. On the plus side, other reviewers praise how consistent companions’ faces stay across scenes, which matters if photos are why you’re here.

Images, Video and Voice

Photos are the main event on Nectar, and the allowances are generous for the price.

  • Photo messages: your companion sends pictures in chat, up to 600 a month on Premium and 900 on Pro. Free accounts get one
  • Image generator: 10 images a day free, 100 a day on Premium, and unlimited on Pro and Ultimate, with HD from Pro up
  • Voice and calls: the source plan breakdown lists 50 voice messages monthly on Premium and Pro, and 100 on Ultimate. The current homepage also advertises live video calls. Their availability, quality and credit costs have not been tested for this review.
  • Video: Ultimate only, for both video generation and video messages

Reviews of the quality are middling to good. StartupHub.ai called the images acceptable but not best-in-class, and found video and voice less reliable than dedicated tools. Other reviewers single out face consistency as a strength.

The usual rules apply. Never upload or describe a real person, and keep every character and scenario 18+.

Privacy, Discretion and Deleting Your Account

Nectar’s privacy paperwork is short on the details that matter most for intimate chats. Here’s what RoboRhythms found in the privacy policy, last updated January 28, 2026:

  • Nectar says it doesn’t sell or rent your personal information for marketing
  • It shares data with service vendors, such as its email provider
  • It cites encryption, firewalls and SSL, while warning that no system is breach-proof
  • It doesn’t say how long chats are kept, or whether they’re used to train its AI

StartupHub.ai adds that chats are processed on Nectar’s servers to personalize replies, with no end-to-end encryption. That’s normal for the category, but it means your chats aren’t private from the company.

Age checks. Nectar’s current official FAQ says users must be at least 18, and adult content is restricted to verified adults. We have not tested the regional verification process.

Deleting your account. Nectar’s terms let you delete your account at any time, in the app or on the site.

Discretion. We have not verified the card-statement descriptor with a purchase. Check the billing information at checkout and your first statement.

A few habits help:

  • Sign up with an email address that doesn’t include your name
  • Keep real names, addresses and workplaces out of your chats and saved memories
  • Log out on shared devices, since it all runs in a browser

What Reddit, Forums and Review Sites Say

These are recurring themes in the independent reviews and user reports gathered for this article. They describe other people’s experiences, rather than results from our own hands-on testing.

There’s no Trustpilot score to check. Nectar’s Trustpilot profile reads “This profile has been removed,” which RoboRhythms confirmed on October 22, 2026. Directory ratings exist (ToolDirectory shows 4.8 out of 5 from 140 user ratings), but anonymous directory ratings are hard to verify, so I give them little weight.

Free accounts hit walls fast. On Reddit’s r/CharacterAIrevolution, one user said they couldn’t delete their only character on the free plan without paying. Another worried that signing up would trigger a charge (it doesn’t).

Reviewers like the chat more than the long-term memory. StartupHub.ai rated Nectar 7.6 out of 10 for polished adult roleplay with a custom character, but about 6 out of 10 for anyone who needs free exploration, flat pricing or week-long story memory.

Two currencies cause confusion. Reviewers keep coming back to the same point: the plan allowances are clear, but credits aren’t, so heavy users struggle to predict their bill.

The overall picture? Across these reports, people who want a good-looking companion and short, steamy scenes seem well served. People who want a long relationship with a character who remembers them tend to find the memory falls short below Ultimate.

The Good, the Meh and the Dealbreakers

The good

  • Premium is cheap for what you get: about $5 a month billed yearly, with 600 photo messages a month
  • Published monthly allowances for messages, photos and voice messages
  • Deep companion design, with more than 350 options on Ultimate
  • Fantasies, including group scenes with up to 10 characters
  • Eight chat models to switch between
  • Faces that stay consistent across photos, by most accounts

The meh

  • A free plan of 15 messages a day, with 15 messages of memory
  • Credits on top of plan allowances, with no full price list
  • Long Term Memory and video only on the $34.99-a-month Ultimate plan
  • Images are good, not best-in-class
  • No official phone app

The dealbreakers (for some)

  • A privacy policy that’s silent on chat retention and AI training
  • No refunds for the period you’ve paid for
  • Adult content gated by a self-declared age check

Who It’s For (and Who Should Skip It)

Nectar AI is a good fit if you:

  • Want to design a companion’s look and personality in detail
  • Care more about photos than long-term memory
  • Want a low monthly price and clear allowances
  • Enjoy ready-made scenarios, including group scenes

Skip it if you:

  • Want a companion who remembers you for weeks. Nomi or Kindroid suit that better
  • Want lots of free chat. SpicyChat is far more generous
  • Need clear answers on data retention and AI training
  • Want a native phone app

Nectar AI Alternatives Worth a Look

If Nectar isn’t quite right, these are the obvious next stops. Prices move often, so treat these as starting points.

  • Candy AI. Cheaper still at $3.99 a month on the annual plan, with unlimited chat and a polished companion. Its free tier is only five messages, though, and most media prices only show up inside the app.
  • OurDream AI. The pick for images and video, with 1,000 Dreamcoins a month from $9.99 a month billed yearly and a published coin price list.
  • Secrets AI. Stronger memory tools, with automatic memories ranked by importance, plus video with sound. Premium costs $109.99 a year.
  • SpicyChat. Free character roleplay with a 2,000-reply daily cap, if you care more about stories than photos.

Nectar AI FAQs

Is Nectar AI free?

Yes, with limits. The free plan gives you 15 messages a day, one photo message, 10 image generations a day and one custom companion.

How much does Nectar AI cost?

Premium costs $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, Pro $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and Ultimate $34.99 a month or $179.99 a year.

What are Nectar AI credits?

A second currency for premium chat models, advanced roleplay and some image and video generation. Packs start at 2,500 credits for $4.99, and Ultimate includes 2,500 a month.

Does Nectar AI have long-term memory?

Only on Ultimate. Lower plans rely on the context window (8K on Premium, 16K on Pro) plus any memories you save by hand.

Is there a Nectar AI app?

Not an official one. Nectar runs in your browser, and apps with similar names in the App Store come from other developers.

Is nectar.ai the same as trynectar.ai?

Yes, both addresses lead to the same service. Trynectar.it.com is a different site that says it isn’t affiliated.

Can I get a refund?

Not for the period you’ve already paid for. Cancel before your renewal date if you don’t want to continue.

Is Nectar AI safe?

It says it doesn’t sell your personal information, but its privacy policy doesn’t say how long chats are kept or whether they train its AI. Use a separate email and keep personal details out of your chats.

So, Is Nectar AI Worth It?

For photos on a budget, yes. Premium’s $59.99 yearly price buys 600 photo messages a month and a companion you’ve designed yourself, and few rivals spell out their allowances this clearly.

For a long relationship, it’s a harder sell. Long Term Memory only arrives on the $34.99-a-month Ultimate plan, and independent testing found memory slipping in long chats. If being remembered matters most, look at Nomi or Secrets AI first.

Whichever way you go, try a month before paying for a year, keep personal details out of your chats, and stick to nectar.ai or trynectar.ai.
