Candy AI Review: Quick Verdict

Recommended for most people. Candy AI is our top pick if you want an AI companion who’s fun to talk to and looks the part. For $3.99 a month on the annual plan, you get unlimited flirty chat and more than 140 ready-made characters. Its images are some of the most realistic in the category, and billing is discreet (“EverAI” on your statement). Just budget for tokens, since images, voice and video use them. The free tier is only five messages, and refunds close 24 hours after you pay.

  • Best for: adults who want unlimited chat plus the odd image, and can decide quickly whether it’s for them
  • Skip it if: you want a usable free tier, predictable media costs or strong privacy defaults
  • Starting price: $3.99 a month, billed yearly ($47.88)

I’ll be honest. I expected Candy AI to be a slick paywall with a pretty face.

It’s partly that. It’s also one of the most polished AI companion platforms around, especially if you care how your companion looks. You chat with ready-made or custom characters, and they can send you images, voice messages and short videos. Text chat is unlimited once you pay. Everything else runs on tokens.

This review brings together Candy’s published pricing and policies with reports from other reviewers and users. Hands-on chat and memory testing has not yet been completed.

What Is Candy AI, Exactly?

Candy AI is an adults-only AI companion platform. You pick a ready-made character or build your own, then chat by text, swap voice messages and ask for images or short videos of your character.

It’s run by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta. Its chief executive is Alexis Soulopoulos, a co-founder of the Australian pet-sitting platform Mad Paws, according to Bellingcat in 2025. That makes Candy a real, identifiable business, which is more than plenty of apps in this space can say.

There’s nothing to download, either. Candy doesn’t offer an iPhone or Android app. It runs in your browser, and on a phone you can add it to your home screen.

Its rules are strict on paper. Candy is for adults 18 and over, and its community guidelines ban content involving minors and images that resemble real people.

One episode is worth knowing about. In January 2025, Bellingcat reported that Candy ads had run on MrDeepFakes, a notorious site for non-consensual deepfake porn, since mid-December 2024. They’d been placed through Candy’s affiliate programme. EverAI said it doesn’t condone deepfakes and cut ties with the publisher, and the links came down after Bellingcat asked about them.

That investigation turned up another useful detail: Candy’s affiliate programme offered up to 40% commission on subscriptions and tokens. It’s why you’ll see Candy recommended almost everywhere. Read glowing reviews with that in mind, including any with affiliate links (ours included).

You wouldn’t be alone in trying it. A July 2026 Talker Research survey of 2,000 US adults found that 11% had had a flirty or romantic conversation with an AI chatbot.

Free vs Premium: What You Actually Get

Candy AI is free to join. It isn’t free to use.

Its help centre caps a free account at five messages in total, across all characters, plus one custom character and one image. The terms repeat the five-message limit. You’ll learn whether you like the interface. You won’t learn whether a character holds up.

Is there a Candy AI free trial? Not in any useful sense. One Candy marketing page advertises a seven-day trial, but the plan page offers no trial option, and the help centre and terms describe the five-message cap instead. Treat the 24-hour refund window as the real trial (more on that below).

Premium, on any billing length, gets you:

  • Unlimited text chat
  • 100 tokens a month for images, voice and video
  • Custom characters (creating one costs tokens)
  • Voice messages and calls, paid in tokens

There’s also Premium Plus, with 330 tokens a month, 20 memory slots and a persona profile. Candy doesn’t show its price on the public plan page, so you’ll only see it once you’re signed in.

My tip: write your character and opening scene in a note before you sign up. Then spend all five free messages on the scenario you care about most, not on small talk.

What Candy AI Really Costs

Candy AI subscription plan comparison displaying UK prices in pounds
Candy AI plan page, captured October 27, 2026. This screenshot shows UK prices in GBP; the comparison below lists US prices in USD.

Candy AI has two price tags: the subscription and the tokens. The subscription is the part you see.

Here’s what the US view of the plan page showed in late October 2026:

Plan You pay Works out at
12 months $47.88 once a year $3.99 a month
3 months $26.97 every 3 months $8.99 a month
1 month $9.99 for the first month (signed in), then $13.99 $13.99 a month
2 weeks $9.79 every 2 weeks About $21.21 a month
1 week $5.60 a week About $24.27 a month

Every plan includes the same 100 tokens a month, and each renews automatically at the same price and term. Candy presents the longer plans as discounts (70% off annual, 35% off quarterly) and moves those around often. The weekly and two-week options sit inside the payment pop-up, and they’re the worst value on the page.

Then come the tokens. Candy values a token at about 10 cents. (Its referral page calls a 200-token bonus a $20 value.) So your monthly allowance is worth roughly $10.

The frustrating part is that Candy publishes very few token prices. Candy Roulette video chat costs 5 tokens a minute, locked Shorts episodes cost 12 tokens on most series, and an Exclusive Character can run to 200 tokens. Images, voice and video only show their cost inside the app, and the token store hides its packs until you sign in. In the Reddit threads I read, one user had burned a third of their monthly tokens in their first hour.

Two settings help. Switch off image generation in chat when you only want to talk, and turn off unprompted photos and voice notes on Realistic-mode characters.

The fine print, from Candy’s terms (revised September 22, 2026) and help centre:

  • Refunds only within 24 hours of payment, for card payments, and only if you’ve used 20 tokens or fewer
  • EU and UK buyers can withdraw within 14 days of a first purchase, minus a prorated amount (renewals don’t count)
  • Cancelling isn’t a refund request. Email support@candymail.ai within the 24 hours instead
  • A refund or chargeback ends Premium and wipes your tokens immediately
  • Candy can raise prices with notice before a renewal, and can charge a backup payment method if your card fails
  • The terms say unused tokens expire when you cancel. A help article says they don’t. Plan on losing them

How to cancel: go to My Profile, then Settings, scroll to the bottom and click Unsubscribe. You keep Premium until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you can’t pause a plan instead.

My advice? Start on one month, stay under 20 tokens on day one, and decide within 24 hours. Move to annual once you know your token habits.

Chat and Memory: Does Candy Remember You?

Text chat is the one thing Candy AI gives you without limits, so it had better be good.

Building a character takes a few minutes. You set their look (adult ages only, from 18 to 55), choose one of 12 personality types and pick the relationship, from girlfriend to friend. Or skip all that and choose from more than 140 ready-made companions in realistic or anime styles.

Here’s the thing: a specific scene gets far better replies than “hi.” Something like “we’re sharing an umbrella outside a café that’s just closed” gives a character something to build on.

Memory is where Candy gets vague. Its help centre says detailed memory is tied to the active chat, so resetting a chat starts it from scratch. Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots and a persona profile, so you can pin the details you want a character to keep.

Other reviewers are split. One I read, who used Candy daily for a month, found characters kept their personality and look for weeks, but lost conversational details within a few days. On Reddit, memory in long chats was a complaint I saw often, and users said saved memories and the odd reminder help.

Images, Video and Voice

This is where Candy AI stands out from most rivals, and where your tokens go.

  • Images. Ask for a picture in chat, or let Story Mode generate scenes as a roleplay unfolds. Every new character now uses Candy’s V2 image engine, which it says improves realism and consistency.
  • Video. You can turn an image of your character into a short clip. Live Action, a Premium-only mode for selected ready-made characters, currently works on mobile only. Candy Roulette is a live-style video chat at 5 tokens a minute.
  • Candy Shorts. These are scripted short-video series starring Candy’s characters. The first two episodes of every series are free, and later ones cost 12 tokens each on most series.
  • Voice. Characters can send voice messages, and you can call them (calls are still in beta). There are nine voices to choose from, and both messages and calls cost tokens.

Image quality is the thing fans rave about. In the Reddit threads I read, realistic, consistent images were among the most-praised features. But prompts don’t always land, especially mid-chat outfit or setting changes, and users say video eats tokens fastest. One user I came across had paid 20 tokens for a 10-second clip.

Two rules are worth repeating. Candy bans images that resemble real people, and everything on the platform is for adults only. Don’t upload or describe anyone real, and keep every character and scenario 18+.

If images are the main draw, budget for them before you subscribe. The 100 monthly tokens won’t stretch far.

Privacy, Discretion and Deleting Your Account

Candy AI is a real company with detailed policies. That’s the good news. The less comfortable part is what those policies allow.

What happens to your chats, per Candy’s privacy notice (revised October 2026):

  • They can be used to train its AI models, and preparing that training data may involve human review of de-identified chats
  • Third-party AI providers and hosts “may receive the content of your messages”
  • Data can be transferred outside the EU, including to the US
  • Candy says it won’t sell your personal data without your consent

How long it keeps your data:

Data Kept for
Account data 3 years after your last activity
Financial records 10 years
Marketing data Up to 2 years
Log files 30 days

Deleting your account. Go to My Profile, then Settings, then the Danger Zone, and choose Delete Account. Deleting before your renewal date also cancels the subscription, which is more than many apps manage. You can also email support@candymail.ai, and Candy aims to reply within a month. It keeps some data for legally required periods.

Discretion is a genuine strength. Charges show as “EverAI”, not Candy AI. Nothing turns up in your phone’s app store purchases, because there’s no app. And you can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer or crypto.

A few habits help:

  • Sign up with an email address that doesn’t include your name
  • Keep real names, addresses and workplaces out of your chats
  • Set a reminder a few days before renewal

For context, this isn’t unique to Candy. When Mozilla reviewed 11 romantic AI chatbots in 2024, every one failed its privacy review. We couldn’t find any public data breach involving Candy or EverAI.

UK readers. Since July 25, 2025, Ofcom’s rules have required strong age checks on services that show porn. Candy’s privacy notice says its third-party age checks depend on where you are, so expect to verify your age.

What Reddit, Forums and Review Sites Say

Before I trust my own impressions of any companion app, I go and read what its regulars say. With Candy, I spent a good while in the Reddit threads, and the same themes kept coming up.

Cost is the big one. The complaint I saw more than any other was about tokens. Plenty of people subscribe expecting Premium to cover everything, then find that images, voice and video all come out of the same 100-token allowance.

After that, it’s chat depth and images. I kept seeing people say some characters give short or repetitive replies, that images don’t always follow the prompt, and that memory slips in long chats. One useful tip I came across: ready-made characters tend to give fuller replies than custom ones.

The praise is just as consistent. People rave about realistic images, the character creator and chat that feels more natural than they expected.

It isn’t just my impression. AI Girlfriend Review, an affiliate site, counted 28 Reddit threads about Candy from August 2024 to October 2026. Token costs came up in 16 of them, short replies and missed prompts in 8 each, and memory in 7. These are useful issues to check in a future hands-on test.

“Scam” claims are mostly about money, not fraud. When I dug into the threads calling Candy a scam, they were almost always about prices, pushy affiliate marketing or copycat sites, not people paying and getting nothing. Pay only on candy.ai itself, and expect the charge to read “EverAI.”

Trustpilot has pulled Candy’s page. When I checked on October 27, 2026, Trustpilot said Candy’s profile had been removed for going against its guidelines, without saying which ones. A separate “Candy AI” profile that shows up in search belongs to a different website, so don’t mistake it for the real thing.

Candy’s Discord is busy. Regulars swap image prompts there, and Candy’s support team points users to it regularly.

The overall picture? From everything I read, people who want flirty chat with great-looking visuals tend to stay. People who expected unlimited images or deep, long-running stories tend to leave disappointed.

The Good, the Meh and the Dealbreakers

The good

  • Unlimited text chat from $3.99 a month on the annual plan
  • Polished, consistent images and more than 140 ready-made characters
  • A real, identifiable company with published terms and retention periods
  • Discreet billing (“EverAI”) and no app on your phone
  • Deleting your account also cancels your plan

The meh

  • Most token prices only appear inside the app
  • The free tier is five messages in total
  • Weekly and two-week plans cost more per month than the monthly plan
  • Candy says little about how long conversation memory lasts

The dealbreakers (for some)

  • A refund window that closes after 24 hours or 20 tokens
  • Chats can train Candy’s models and reach third-party AI providers
  • Conflicting rules on whether your tokens survive cancellation

Who It’s For (and Who Should Skip It)

Candy AI is a good fit if you:

  • Want unlimited flirty chat on a budget, and only the occasional image
  • Care how your companion looks, and want a big choice of ready-made characters
  • Are happy to decide within a day whether to keep paying
  • Value discreet billing

Skip it if you:

  • Want a free tier you can actually use.
  • Plan to generate lots of images or video and want to budget it in advance
  • Want an app that doesn’t train on your chats, or a phone app at all
  • Mainly want deep, long-running stories with reliable memory

Candy AI Alternatives Worth a Look

If Candy’s mix of cheap chat and metered media doesn’t suit you, these are the obvious next stops. Prices move often, so treat these as starting points.

  • OurDream AI. It costs more, at $19.99 a month or $119.88 a year, but it publishes the coin price of every image, call minute and video second. That makes heavy media use easier to budget. The catch: your images and videos blur if your plan lapses.
  • Nectar AI. Its $9.99-a-month Premium plan sets out a monthly allowance of photo and voice messages, so you know what you’re getting before you pay.
  • Nomi. It’s built around memory and conversation rather than images. It’s a better bet if continuity matters most.
  • SpicyChat. It has a huge character library and a free tier of 100 messages a day (with ads), so you can try far more than five messages.
  • Kindroid. It offers deep control over personality, backstory and memories, though its annual plan costs far more than Candy’s.

Candy AI FAQs

Is Candy AI free?

It’s free to join, but a free account gets just five messages in total, one custom character and one image. Ongoing chat, voice and video need Premium.

Does Candy AI have a free trial?

Not really. One marketing page mentions a seven-day trial, but the checkout offers none, and Candy’s help centre and terms describe the five-message cap. The 24-hour refund window is the closest thing to a trial.

How much is Candy AI?

$13.99 a month, $26.97 every three months or $47.88 a year, with 100 tokens a month on every plan. Signed-in accounts may see $9.99 for the first month.

Is Candy AI safe?

It’s run by a registered company, EverAI Limited in Malta, and we found no public data breach. But your chats can train its AI models and may reach third-party AI providers.

What will show on my bank statement?

“EverAI”, with no mention of Candy.

Can I get a refund?

Only within 24 hours of paying by card, and only if you’ve used 20 tokens or fewer. EU and UK buyers can also withdraw within 14 days of a first purchase.

How do I delete my Candy AI account?

Go to My Profile, then Settings, then the Danger Zone, and choose Delete Account. Doing it before your renewal date also cancels your subscription.

Is there a Candy AI app?

No. Candy runs in your browser, and you can add it to your phone’s home screen.

So, Is Candy AI Worth It?

If you want unlimited flirty chat and a companion who looks the part, Candy AI is easy to justify on the annual plan. Few rivals match its images at this price.

Just go in with your eyes open. Treat the free tier as a quick look, not a test. Budget for tokens, stay under 20 of them on day one in case you want a refund, and keep personal details out of your chats.
